Numerical simulations of vibration and sound radiation of the 225/50R17 smoothing tire and longitudinally grooved tire excited by surface load are carried out by using the FEM software ANSYS and the BEM software SYSNOISE. The displacement frequency responses of the tires excited by, respectively, radial contact force, tangential contact force and lateral contact force are calculated using FEM. Then, the result of nodal displacement responses is used as the boundary condition for the BEM model. The radiation sound power, radiation efficiency, and the directivity of sound in far field in three working cases are computed by means of BEM technique.
