Modeling and Parameters Optimization of n -Grade Tuned Mass Dampers

A universal formula for optimal control performance of n-grade tuned mass dampers is established. At first, two optimization methods, including fixed point method and numerical method, were described. Then, a general-purpose optimization program was developed using MATLAB code. The optimized parameters of different type of tuned mass dampers were calculated using the program for a main system of single degree of freedom. The results indicate that the optimized tuned mass dampers can suppress the vibration of the main system effectively. The optimal methods and some conclusions presented in this paper are useful for tuned mass damper design.
