Since onedimensional and twodimensional commercial codes may not be used to accurately analyze the acoustical performance for resistance mufflers in the case of different arrangement of crosssections, threedimensional software is employed to analyze this problem. It is found that different arrangements of crosssections can induce different transmission loss in a large frequency range. According to the exhaust noise spectrum and the computation results, the design of the mufflers can be optimized further.
