A new siliconbased elastomer damper designed especially for the antiimpact requirements of ship piping systems is studied. In order to test the effect of the damper in practical application, the new damper was attached to a main engine lubricating oil pipe of a ship. An explosion experiment was done to test the antiimpact ability of the damper. In this experiment, the main engine lubricating oil pipe near the explosion spot was protected by two new siliconbased elastomer dampers. However, the other main engine lubricating oil pipe did not have the new dampers. Comparing the responses of acceleration of the two pipes, the good antiimpact ability of the new siliconbased damper is confirmed.
